POSITION OVERVIEW

Our Maintenance Workers take pride in preventative maintenance, repairing of buildings, grounds and equipment. You would beworkingfrom 7:30amto 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, or as needed for snow removal.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for removal of snow on property.
• Perform tasks related to maintenance slips and project work, will be available for off hours work such as snow removal and other emergencies and are willing to work irregular hours as needed.
• Assume primary responsibility for the maintenance of a specific Agency building, or for the provision of a specific Department function (e.g. automotive or grounds).
• Perform repairs to plumbing, electric wiring, furniture, doors and windows, hardware, varied mechanical equipment, machinery, install shelves, new hardware and do skilled painting.
• Inspectproperty to ascertain safety and repair needs.
• Order repair parts.
• Perform specialized tasks related to one or more of the standard building trades, or perform automotive maintenance on Agency vehicles along with performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Building and Grounds.

Education and/or Experience

• HS diploma preferred.
• Training certification in skilled trades desired.
• Must have a valid New York State driver’s license.One year's experience in one of the recognized skilled trades or two years of experience in either general buildingconstruction or automotive maintenance.
• Must be able to use the tools, equipment and materials of the building and grounds department, and to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.

ABOUT NORTHERN RIVERS

Description

As a Youth Peer Advocate, you will be an ally, mentor, and advocate for clients and families as they contend with the difficulties and uncertainties of mental illness. You will use lived experience to contribute to treatment planning for each participant, and facilitating the team’s development and maintenance of a culture of respect. The Youth Assertive Community Treatment team (ACT) Program is an innovative treatment program. The program serves children with mental illness or serious emotional disturbance and their families. You will report to the Director of Youth Act and work onsite with community-based travel required.

Responsibilities:

• Engage individuals and establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goals clients identify on their treatment plans
• Contribute to client treatment plans, advocating for clients' needs
• Participate in daily treatment team meetings and work directly with other team members to provide support and assistance to program participants.
• Provide individual face-to-face support to youth and families receiving services
• Spend 70% or more of scheduled work hours in community settings
• Meet with family, youth, and collateral contacts to provide psychoeducation about serious mental illness
• Be a role model, educate recipients about self-help techniques and self-help group processes, teach effective coping strategies based on personal experience, teach symptom management skills, assist in clarifying rehabilitation and recovery goals, and assist in the development of community support systems and networks.

Requirements and Education:

• High School Diploma or GED, Associates Degree preferred
• A valid New York State driver’s license.
• Complete and obtain the NYCPS-Provisional certification for review by the New York Peer Specialist Certification Board (NYPSCB) within the agreed-upon time of start date.

The Lake Placid Lodge is looking for maintenance representatives to make our guests feel welcome and ensure their pleasant and comfortable stay at our hotel.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the facilities during all seasons in accordance with the preventive maintenance program.
• Perform electrical work. For example: Replace light switches, Reset circuit breakers, Replace wall plug receptacles, Replace fluorescent light ballast, Replace electrical solenoid valves, Replace small motors
• Perform basic plumbing work. For example: Clear clogged sinks, toilets, garbage disposals and drain lines, Repair or replace valves, Replace washer, gaskets, vacuum breakers, toilet seals,
• Perform Preventive Maintenance work. For example: Monitor and maintain all laundry and dry cleaning equipment, Monitor and maintain all kitchen equipment, Change air-conditioning filters.
• Other related duties as assigned by manager
• Shift is from 7:00AM - 3:30PM

Requirements:

• 1 year previous experience.
• Certification or completion of specialized training program (electrician, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)
• Basic carpentry skills
• Excellent communication skills to adequately interact with clients
• Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to reliably commute to Lake Placid
• Provide legible communication and directions.
• Working knowledge of:
  • health codes
  • NEC
  • national/local fire codes
  • local mechanical codes
  • blue prints and wiring schematics
  • power and hand tools, meters, etc. as it relates to the technical trades
• Ability to:
  • Interpret manufacturer's literature for installation, preparation, use and maintenance of various materials and products used throughout the property.
  • Be well organized and follow instructions.

  • Prioritize tasks and comply with deadlines for work assignments.

Pay Range: $18-$22 per hour

St. Lawrence has a unique opportunity for a seasonal caretaker at the University owned property on Upper Saranac Lake (NY). “Canaras” is a private camp with more than two thousand feet of scenic shoreline and several buildings including a main lodge, dining hall, guest cabins, boat houses, docks, tennis court, and conference center. It is operated as a seasonal destination for St. Lawrence University functions and guest accommodations for alumni, faculty, and staff. Our primary operations run from May – August with additional work expectations in April, September, and October. The Caretaker will be required to maintain a presence on-site and be on call during the occupied season.

The Caretaker is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all building interiors and exteriors. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the security of all gates and buildings, door hardware, general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, maintaining fire safety devices and record keeping, daily water tests per NYS Board of Health. Sweeping decks, ramps and stairs and clearing roofs of debris.

Responsibilities will further include maintaining grounds to include but not limited to maintaining walkways, trails, roads. Removal of fallen branches, trees, cutting tree limbs and maintaining the canopy, chipping debris, cutting wood, mowing, weed eating and snow removal. The caretaker will also be responsible for training Canaras staff in these activities and to be there during the opening and closing of camp with Canaras staff. The caretaker will be responsible for being on site for all external and internal guests who stay on site during the pre and post season.

Maintain the operating budget and will be heavily involved in project planning and the capital budgeting process. Must maintain all University equipment, tools, and general stores. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining annual physical inventory of all tools, equipment, building furnishings, set-up, and tear down of events.

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer, the Caretaker must be able to interact positively with the Camp Director, Cook, and student workers along with contractors and other University employees.

The Caretaker will perform carpentry duties as assigned by the CFO or Capital Projects Manager.

Salary $37,000 - $42,000.

Minimum Qualifications

• H.S. diploma (or equivalent) required.
• Skilled work experience in the areas of general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and painting.
• Ability to safely use assigned tools.
• Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with University guests and employees.
• Ability to meet University requirements to drive and operate assigned vehicles.
• Ability to use required computer systems (email, Word, Excel

Preferred Qualifications

• Boating license (or ability to obtain).
• Prior related work experience
